(I'm the one that's) Cool

If you haven't seen the new music video from the cast of The Guild and writers Jed Whedon/Felicia Day and you too are a nerd/geek then you MUST see it:

Now I LOVED "(Do You Wanna Date My) Avatar" but this video is fucking amazing.  I could be wrong too but I swear it looks like Sandeep's got real drumming chops.  Nice.

So take a moment for something fun today and watch this.

Happy Earth Day!

[Image description: A young white woman with brown hair (this blog's author)
wearing white and blue swimming shorts, flip flops and a blue t-shirt
hugs a large redwood tree and smiles broadly with her eyes closed.
Small round specks sort of like bubbles dot the photo
where a light mist had covered the camera lens.]

Hug a tree, it's good for you! :)

Doctor Horrible Sequel Moving Along Slowly But Surely

Jed Whedon: Captain Hammer is comedy gold | Los Angeles Times:
"JP: There’s been talk of a sequel. How far along is the planning for it, if at all?

JW: We have some songs, a rough outline, and no time. Though I have a feeling that when Joss is finished making his massive, expensive superhero movie, he will want nothing more than to make a tiny, cheap superhero movie. With songs."

This pleases me. And so I thought I would share it with the rest of you! The interview also has a few other interesting related details.

If Movie Titles Were Honest

Cracked.com did a whole list of these, and there were quite a few that I thought were right on or at least pretty funny, but this one got by far the best response on my Tumblr...

The movie poster for "The Blind Side" with the title changed to "White Guilt".

YUMMY

Ok so I made something damn good last week, but today tops everything I have ever done. And I am not exaggerating.

So, I'm going to share. :)

I rough chopped sweet onions, sliced sweet bell peppers in 1/4 inch slices and then cut them in half. Finely chopped a LOT of fresh mint. Finely chopped about 5 cloves of garlic.

Put these in a glass baking dish with peas and corn.

Season with:
jerk seasoning
tandoori seasoning
quite a bit of curry powder
chili powder
white pepper
salt and black pepper
cumin
olive oil
marsala wine

Enough of the liquids to make sure the pan has a good layer of liquid at the bottom, for steaming and cooking the onions, peppers, corn, peas and garlic. I had to add more wine because the vegetables soaked up what I initially put in, don't be afraid to do the same.

Put in the lamb steaks, mine were about a half an inch thick. Sprinkle the top with olive oil and the same seasonings as the rest, give it a good coating of seasoning.

Cover with foil (loosely) and put in a 375 degree oven for twenty minutes. Uncover and cook for another 15-20 minutes depending on how well done you like your lamb.

We dished this up on top of thick sliced sour batard (a med-small sized loaf) from our favorite bakery spread with butter on the top and crust on the bottom. Placed the lamb on top of the buttered side and then poured the “sauce” from the pan with the veg over the top.

SO. GOOD.

GEEK HUMOR AHEAD!

Everyone in The Guild is so fucking awesome. As are Felicia Day, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen just in general.

Gratuitous Hot Men of Color

Shortly after my post about my concern over my taste for white men, I saw a picture that made me go, "hmmm, there are some MOC I find attractive, maybe I should take stock of them..." I haven't done a post of gratuitous hot men for well over a year. And let me be clear here, this isn't just "guys I intellectually understand to be attractive" there are plenty of those. These are guys that I think are HOT, as in; who have at times made me flat out horny.

So...enjoy.

The original picture in question was posted at Sylvia's tumblr (not usually up for gay male porn as a turn on, but you know, apparently I'll make an exception for this slash fiction):

Yah, Sendhil Ramamurthy (no matter how annoying Mohinder has sadly become) is really fucking hot, from looks to voice to attitude. But since Zachary Quinto takes up the majority of that picture, here's another...

Then we have another long time favorite, Daniel Sunjata, "Franco" on Rescue Me.

In the last season of Heroes, Ando started coming into his own and being his own assertive character. And suddenly I found him increasingly hot. So, James Kyson Lee.

The always classic Zach de la Rocha

Gary Dourdan (last I watched it, he was still playing "Warick" on CSI, but I heard he quit).

This list is pretty short... But it's a start.

On Being White

Let's have a laugh, shall we?

I presented this and facilitated a discussion about it in my Whiteness Studies class this evening. We also had a "whiteness" potluck where we brought food we associate with whiteness. I brought whole grain scones that I made myself. I went with granola whiteness to represent. But really, what else could The Jaded Hippy go with, honestly?

It was a good end to the semester.

P.S. I have another series cued up for you; I broke down the research paper I wrote on Zapatista women, so look for that over the next few days, it's an area of interest I haven't talked about much on here but is rather important to me.

The reason for my lull in posting (which will probably continue a few more days)

I know not everyone is so lucky, but if summer just hit you full force like it hit me, go out and enjoy it as much as you can...the internet will be here when you get back. And if it hasn't yet, enjoy this picture of where I live, you'll get yours soon enough.

Relationship MeMe

So I saw this a while ago and tucked it away for a rainy day, it's not actually raining but for some reason I felt like tidying up my drafts and figured I might as well do this. If you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you'll know I'm married, but maybe not a ton about he and I or our relationship as I really just don't blog about us much. So here are some random tidbits.

1. Who eats more?
He does, and should!

2. Who said “I love you” first?
Pretty sure that was me, but it's been a while now.

3. Who is the morning person?
HIM. I am NOT a morning person. At all. He's what I consider a morning person even now when he's working past midnight.

4. Who sings better?
Me. :D It helps that he doesn't actually ever sing, but even if he did, me. ;)

5. Who’s older?
He's 8 years older than me, almost to the day. Our birthday's are one day apart.

6. Who’s smarter?
Depends on the subject. Math makes me want to throw things. Writing an essay makes him want to throw things. On most discussion topics we're both able to converse intelligently.

7. Who’s temper is worse?
Depends on how you define worse. I tend to get irritated more easily, he's scarier when he finally does blow up.

8. Who does the laundry?
Me pretty much. Because he's lazy and I don't call him on it.

9. Who does the dishes?
Both of us. Which really means neither of us as often as we can help it because we both HATE doing dishes.

10. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
He does. He's got a weird thing with sides, I don't really care what side I'm on.

11. Who’s feet are bigger?
LOL his definitely.

12. Who’s hair is longer?
Mine. He keeps his hair short. I hate, HATE, long hair on guys. And long to me meaning like to their chin.

13. Who’s better with the computer?
Need something found on the internet? Me. Need a hard drive fixed? Him.

14. Do you have pets?
One cat!

15. Who pays the bills?
Me. Always me. That laziness thing again I think.

16. Who cooks dinner?
Him usually. I'm not a very good cook and I find cooking stressful.

17. Who drives when you are together?
I do. Except on road trips. When we get out of the city and have long straight flat stretches, then he drives.

18. Who pays when you go out to dinner?
Whoever has cash, which is usually him.

19. Who’s the most stubborn?
He is probably, but we've never had a real stand off to find out.

20. Who is the first one to admit when they’re wrong?
Not an issue; neither of us are ever wrong. Ever.

21. Who’s family do you see more?
Mine, a lot more.

22. Who named your pet?
I think both of us agreed that all we ever called our new kitten was "Kitty" and therefore it stuck.

23. Who kissed who first?
Honestly I don't remember, but I bet it was him.

24. Who asked who out?
I asked him out. I was feeling out-of-character forward that day.

26. Who’s more sensitive?
Me for sure, although his Leo pride can be wounded too.

27. Who’s taller?
Him, by about 7 inches. He's fairly tall.

28. Who has more friends?
I'd say we're pretty even. But he has more "real life" friends than I do.

29. Who has more siblings?
He's got two sisters, I only have one brother.

As seen at Thursday's Child

Revenge of the Feminist Cat Collective

This afternoon when I whipped out my Google Reader to joyfully see what brilliance people are popping out today, I came upon a horrifying post from the usually brilliant Renee, at Womanist Musings. She claims that:
I pointed out through twitter to Cara that by privileging cats, no matter how cute the little fur balls are, we are creating a hierarchy of oppressions. The suffering of dogs needs to be realized.

What she clearly fails to take account of is that dogs don't CARE that they are trained to serve their masters, they LIKE it that way! Anyone who has been around a dog for any length of time can tell they are at their happiest when their master is happy, and want little else in life than some favorable attention from her. They do not suffer, the way in which we train them is in line with their inborn nature and makes them happy!

Just because we get our paper or slippers fetched for us through such training doesn't mean the training is for OUR benefit!

And further on her true colors come out, she isn't in this for the emancipation of dogs from the oh-so-oppressive shackles of human companionship, but simply taking advantage of a chance to justify her cat-hating-bigotry!
hey hey ho ho feminist cat lovers have got to go.

Shocking behavior!

To make it worse, others are rallying to her cause! Both season of the bitch and Jill at Feministe have joined this so-called "Feminist Coalition of Dog Lovers". I beg my readers not to be lulled into a false sense of security by their rhetoric of inclusiveness and warm fuzzy feelings about dogs; make no mistake, they will settle for nothing less than a replacement of the coveted Feminist Cat with a drooling, dirty, smelly canine of Patriarchy!

Join in solidarity with Cara and I, fight this scourge! Fight for the right for Feminists everywhere to be linked with the animal that used to be worshipped as a God, not the animal that greets you by sticking it's nose in your cooch*!

Yes, some of the pictures of dogs you might see if you follow these links might be fuzzy, might be cute. But what is cuter, this:
Or this?

*(Honestly, is any more proof than this needed to show they are nothing more than a tool of the Patriarchy??)

Dr. Horrible on DVD and Easter Eggs

So as you can probably tell from my other posts on it, I loved Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog.

So of course I was one of the first to grab it for pre-order when it was offered (exclusively) on Amazon. Well, I got it the day before Christmas, and needless to say the husband and I sat down to watch it that night, starting with "Commentary! The Musical". Pretty damn funny, I must say. Of special note was the song "There's No Asians in the Movies" performed (and I assume written?) by Maurissa Tancharoen is searing and rather brilliant. Good to know people on the inside realize how white Joss's main casts sometimes are.

I have yet to figure out the Easter Eggs. I did see the number that pops up when you play it with the Wiccan subtitles. Apparently this is the ISBN to a Mariah Carey album? And if you hit "enter" when they discuss how Felicia Day would "go all Mariah Carey" from time to time in practice it will take you to a countdown. But what to do then?! I haven't figured it out yet. But I will. Oh yes, I will.
